Plumbers Offer of Apprenticeship Process
After the Ranking List is completed and all applicants are notified of their position, qualifying applicants from the Ranking List are made an “Offer of Apprenticeship”. The number of offers made is based on the demands of the industry.
Individuals given an Offer of Apprenticeship must attend a pre-admission meeting. This meeting explains and discusses the parameters of the apprenticeship program, all expected fees and starting dates for classes. Scheduling of drug tests and physicals and confirmation of contractor sponsorships also take place at this key meeting.
An apprentice candidate must pass a drug tests as a condition of employment. Failure will cause the applicant to be dropped from the eligible ranking list. The drug tests currently include a urinalysis and a hair follicle test.
All applicants must pass two physical examinations, one general medical physical and one physical agility examination. These demonstrate that the applicant can perform the essential functions of an apprentice plumber, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Individuals given an Offer of Apprenticeship must attend and successfully complete a five day, forty hour unpaid Orientation. The following are due on the first day of orientation:
No later than the last day of Orientation, an Individual given an Offer of Apprenticeship:
Individuals given an Offer of Apprenticeship MUST report to the assigned contractor immediately after the last day of orientation to begin work.
