2008 Memorial Scholarship Application

The Chicago Federation of Labor is currently accepting application requests for the 2008 William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship Awards.

To assist affiliated union members and their children pursue their education and career goals, the Chicago Federation of Labor will offer ten scholarship awards, each in the amount of $1,500.

The ten scholarship awards are divided equally into two categories: academic competition and random drawing. Students may only apply in one of the two categories.

The awards are named after William A. Lee who served as President of the Chicago Federation of Labor for thirty-eight years.

Mr. Lee devoted more than sixty years to the cause of labor and civic and community service.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must graduate from a Chicago or surrounding suburban area high school in 2008. In addition, the student or one of his or her parents must belong to a local union affiliated with the Chicago Federation of Labor.

No one will be restricted from the competition based on their family income or the acceptance of other scholarships by the winners.

Students must submit a written request for an application to the Chicago Federation of Labor (see application request form below), William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship Committee, 130 East Randolph Street, Suite 2600, Chicago,IL, 60601.

An application request form is also available for download at www.chicagolabor.org. No phone calls will be accepted for application requests.

Once completed, the scholarship application must be returned to the Chicago Federation of Labor by March 1, 2008 in order to be eligible. Any application postmarked after March 1, 2008 will not be accepted.

Please note that students must obtain the signature of either of the two top officers of the local union to which they or their parents belong as verification of membership. Applications signed by union representatives or union stewards will be disqualified.
